Professional Profile
Mr Stroman is a consultant urological and robotic surgeon at both the Urology Partnership and Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading as well as holding clinics in Windsor. He has an interest in prostate and bladder cancer surgery as well as benign prostatic surgery.
As a robotic surgeon, he performs a range of complex pelvic cancer operations including robotic radical prostatectomy, cystoprostatectomy and female cystectomy with ileal conduit formation as well as ureteric reimplantation. Mr Stroman has an interest in nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy and works alongside his consultant andrology colleague to optimise both andrological and oncological outcomes after robotic prostatectomy for prostate cancer.
He has a particular interest in raised PSA, the diagnosis and treatment of prostatic disease. He performs MRI-targeted prostate biopsy as well as local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy and has been involved in both teaching the techniques as well as research.
Mr Stroman is the bladder cancer lead at Royal Berkshire Hospital where he chairs the multi-disciplinary team meetings. Surgically, he performs robotic assisted cystectomy as well as transurethral resection of bladder tumour. He has an interest in both muscle-invasive and non muscle-invasive disease and an interest in both Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) for the treatment of non-muscle invasive high risk disease as well as intra-vesical chemotherapies for intermediate risk disease.
He also has an interest in benign prostatic disease and offers a wide range of up-to-date treatments for prostatic disease including robotic aquablation water-vapour treatment for the prostate and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
Academic Background
Mr Luke Stroman completed a bachelors degree with honours, in physics with astrophysics at the University of Bristol prior to studying medicine at the University of Wales where he gained multiple undergraduate prizes.
He underwent his specialist urological training in both the Oxford and South London deaneries after gaining a top-10 ranking at national urological recruitment. He spent time training at Guy’s and St George’s Hospitals where he gained an interest in urological oncology and benign prostatic disease. During training he held the position of British Association of Urological Surgeons South London trainee representative.
Upon completion of training in the UK, he undertook a specialist robotic uro-oncology fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia under the guidance of some of Australia’s top robotic surgeons, who have trained other top UK and international surgeons. Here he gained a broad range of uro-oncological skills including proficiency in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy.
Mr Stroman has held a strong academic profile, publishing over 20 peer reviewed papers and presenting research internationally at the American Association of Urology and European Association of Urology conferences. He has contributed to published books on prostatic disease, bladder and renal cancer.
