Professional Profile
Mr Sunil Kumar is one the leading experts in stone disease and laser prostate surgery in the UK. He has published his opinions and academic research in numerous international publications & textbook chapters, and pursues an ongoing enthusiastic research interest into stone disease.
He was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2006, and joined the Reading Urology Partnership in the same year.
Prior to coming to Berkshire, Sunil worked in the South West of England as a Specialist Registrar, during which time he was awarded the South West Urologists Best Registrar prize in 1999.
Mr Sunil Kumar is a regional expert in performing Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), and has to date performed over 800 HOLEPs.
He believes that the HoLEP laser prostatectomy procedure gives much better results with faster recovery and less complications when compared to the traditional TURP procedure.
Please see the information pages on HoLEP under the ‘Conditions’ tab for more detailed information on the procedure and helpful advice.
Treatments Performed By Mr Sunil Kumar
There do not exist enough superlatives to describe Dr Kumar’s skill and commitment to his patients. I had been suffering from severe prostate enlargement for many years. Before the surgery frequent visits to A&E were part of my life. Dr Kumar has given me and all my family the quality of life back. The symptoms that had been been troubling have completely disappeared post surgery. The recovery went smoothly and it is likely that the problem has been solved for good. In a nutshell, Dr Kumar is an incredibly talented surgeon and a caring and compassionate consultant. We as a family are extremely grateful to him and recommend him wholeheartedly.
