Academic Background
Miss Johanna (Hanna) Thomas graduated from Imperial College Medical School with a Distinction, obtaining the highest mark in the surgical exam and winning the Glazer Prize for Surgery.
Hanna trained at hospitals throughout the South of England, notably training for a year as a Paediatric Urologist with the leaders in this field at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Hanna has been noted nationally and internationally for the research she has published on undescended testicles, paediatric bladder stones and the long term outcomes of male epispadias. She has published and presented this research at conferences around the world.
Professional Profile
Hanna was the first woman to be appointed as a consultant in the Urology department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital in January 2018.
She has a specialist interest in paediatric urology, kidney and bladder stone disease. Hanna has a caring and sympathetic approach to her patients. She is skilled at hernia operations, circumcisions and the treatment of undescended testes in children. She also has an interest in incontinence and wetting in children.
Hanna performs over 100 ureteroscopies per year for kidney and ureteric stones. She has trained on the BAUS accredited course in PCNL in Sri Lanka, and is very interested on how diet impacts stone formation.
Hanna lives in Reading with her husband and two daughters.
